What is the Cincy Precinct Project?

The Hamilton County Democratic Party is currently unresponsive to the demands of the people of Cincinnati. The working class consistently supports the Democratic Party in the following ways,

  • We vote - We are people who regularly show up to vote and make our voices heard.
  • We protest - We organize and join in protests to demand action.
  • We organize mutual aid - We grow our support network with each other.

But, the Democratic Party rarely supports us beyond encouraging us to vote, and does not actively support progressive candidates. We can take the power needed to transform the Hamilton County Democratic Party by running as precinct executives.

What is a precinct executive?

  • Precinct executives are local party representatives elected in each precinct. Think of precinct executives as neighborhood captains, elected to represent the voice of their neighbors to their chosen political party. Each Hamilton County precinct elects both a Democratic and a Republican precinct executive.
  • Precinct executives meet regularly—usually monthly or every other month—to discuss key issues, vote on decisions like endorsements, and influence the party’s priorities.
  • If the majority of precinct executives are progressives, we can choose new local leadership, redirect funding, and steer the party’s priorities to represent the working class.

The playbook

  • Now through Feb 5th - We file our paperwork at the Hamilton County Board of Elections by the end of February to get on the ballot as precinct executives. We do not need to gather signatures.
  • Feb 6th through May 5th - As Democratic precinct executive candidates, we file together, run together, and help each other win our elections in May of 2026.
  • May 6th forward - When our majority coalition succeeds in May, we can shape the party for working people and their families.  We use the precinct executive network to help unseat conservative Democrats from elected municipal positions. The precinct executive network becomes the base of progressive power in Cincinnati.

What are our major issues?

  • Reallocating funding from police (currently the majority of Cincinnati’s city budget) to more effective measures for public safety such as public schools, public housing, lead removal, healthcare debt abolition, and municipal infrastructure.
  • Reducing burden of regressive forms of municipal taxation like enhanced parking meter enforcement, cash bail, municipal service fees, single home property taxes, and flat taxes.
  • Reallocating funding from luxury housing developments and shopping centers to public housing, public groceries, public transportation, and public parks.
  • Modernizing sewer and public transportation infrastructure.
  • Supporting local unions and workers by increasing the municipal minimum wage and increasing protections for unionized workers.
  • Ending collaboration between municipal services and ICE.
  • Creating public matching funds for campaigns and ranked choice voting.
  • Protecting our community (LGBTQIA+ rights, women’s health, immigrants rights, the dignitiy of the homeless, etc.) from an increasingly aggressive Ohio state government and federal government.
  • Creating a more democratically responsive and transparent municipal government through empowering neighborhood boards, precinct executives, inspector generals, and auditors.
  • Severing all financial ties between the municipal government and targets of international human rights boycotts (e.g. Israel).

Where are we now?

  • 5% of 562 precinct executive candidates recruited as of mid July, 2025.
  • 10% of 562 precinct executive candidates recruited as of mid August, 2025.
