What is the Cincy Precinct Project?

The Hamilton County Democratic Party is currently unresponsive to the demands of the people of Cincinnati. The working class consistently supports the Democratic Party in the following ways,

  • We vote - We are people who regularly show up to vote and make our voices heard.
  • We protest - We organize and join in protests to demand action.
  • We organize mutual aid - We grow our support network with each other.

But, the Democratic Party rarely supports us beyond encouraging us to vote, and does not actively support progressive candidates. We can take the power needed to transform the Hamilton County Democratic Party by running as precinct executives.

What is a precinct executive?

  • Precinct executives are local party representatives elected in each precinct. Think of precinct executives as neighborhood captains, elected to represent the voice of their neighbors to their chosen political party. Each Hamilton County precinct elects both a Democratic and a Republican precinct executive.
  • Precinct executives meet two to three times a year to discuss key issues and vote on party leadership and/or priorities.
  • If the majority of precinct executives are progressives, we can choose new local leadership, redirect funding, and steer the party’s priorities to represent the working class.

The playbook

  • Before filing deadline - Register as many people as possible to run as progressive precinct executives.
  • Then, before primary voting day - As Democratic precinct executive candidates, we file together, run together, and help each other win our elections.
  • After the primary - When our majority coalition succeeds, we can shape the party for working people and their families. We use the precinct executive network to help unseat conservative Democrats from elected municipal positions. The precinct executive network becomes the base of progressive power in Cincinnati.

Our proposed initial reforms

  • “Keep Corporate Influence Out of Party Decisions!” - Corporations don’t vote, people do. Put people, not lobbyists in charge of the Party’s direction.
  • “Give Everyone a Voice!” - Build real representation by establishing caucuses for community members: Black, LGBTQ+, unhoused, labor, and more, so every voice has a seat at the table.
  • “A Party Run by the People!” - Strengthen quorum rules, use blind ballots, and adopt fair procedures to prevent undemocratic control and ensure the party truly reflects its members.

What are our major issues?

  • Protecting our community (LGBTQIA+ rights, women’s health, immigrants rights, the dignitiy of the homeless, etc.) from an increasingly aggressive Ohio state government and federal government.
  • Creating a more democratically responsive and transparent municipal government through empowering neighborhood boards, precinct executives, inspector generals, and auditors.
  • Prioritization of more effective measures for public safety such as public schools, public housing, lead removal, healthcare debt abolition, and municipal infrastructure.
